Conversations & Screenings

GAZA - DOCUMENTARY SCREENING. Dir. Garry Keane & Andrew McConnell (2019).

Following the film, we will screen a behind the scenes interview 'GAZA - The Long Run to Sundance', with Palestinian crew members, Fady Hossam and Ali Abu Yaseen.

Sunday 07 April. Unassigned Gallery, Brunswick.

All proceeds from this screening will be donated to Palestinian organisation: Olive Kids.

ABOUT THE FILM:

"In this cinematic journey through Gaza we unfold a portrait of its ordinary people who attempt to lead meaningful lives beyond the rubble of perennial conflict. Gaza has been shown at Sundance Film Festial, Dublin International Film Festival, and Palm Springs International Film Festival among others.

The behind the scenes interview documents Fady Hossam and Ali Abu Yaseen's journey from Gaza to Sundance Film Festival: "I speak to you from my home in Gaza tonight - there is no electricity - that's why I am using flashlight so you can see me. I am the fixer and production manager for GAZA. My job was to get Ali - the actor and theater director who is in the film - to Park City for the world premiere. But I have not been able to do that because the border between Gaza and Egypt closed 10 days before our US visa interviews in Cairo."

ABOUT THE SERIES:

'Conversations & Screenings' is a collaborative project by Made in Palestine and Unassigned Gallery running March to May, highlighting the power of Palestinian documentary and resistance.

As this event falls within the Holy month of Ramadan, an area will be available for those wishing to pray throughout the evening. Light food and tea will be provided to break your fast.
