Why consider supporting us?
Unassigned Gallery stands as a grassroots artist run space dedicated to shining a spotlight on emerging talent within Melbourne's vibrant arts scene. Our mission goes beyond being an exhibition space; we strive to create an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to engage with art.
At Unassigned, we recognise the power of art and its ability to bridge divides, spark conversations, and foster connections. That's why we aim to be a hub for community engagement and social impact.
Central to our ethos is a commitment to supporting and uplifting margianlised communities and providing opportunities for underrepresented voices. This commitment is shown through our partnership with the Beyond The Stone Walls Advisory Collective, where we have been hosting monthly free art classes for people who have been through the prison system. These classes provide a nurturing environment for participants to explore their creativity, connect with others who share similar experiences, and share their stories in a judgment-free space.
In addition to our support for those affected by the prison system, we also extend our resources to groups and artists engaged in Palestine activism, offering free space for their activities. Providing a platform for solidarity is fundamental to our ethos, and we are proud to stand alongside those advocating for justice and equality in Palestine.
We believe in the power of poetry as a vehicle for social change and community engagement. That's why we host monthly poetry nights, open to all, free of charge. These events serve as a platform for expression, connection, and fundraising for various charities and organisations. Through initiatives like Crockpot Poetry, we've raised funds for causes such as the Palestine Children Relief Fund, Pay the Rent, and Black Rainbow.
Unassigned Gallery actively supports early-career and emerging artists, we see our selves as being a stepping stone for emerging artists, as we have created a space where we can mentor them throughout their exhibition period and beyond.
Our dedication to accessibility, education, and inclusivity drives everything we do, from our workshops to our exhibitions. We want to use our position within the community for positive social change.
