Established in 2022 by Nour Abdullatif, Unassigned Gallery is an artist-run space that seeks to platform new and unseen talent in Melbourne’s vibrant arts scene.
Unassigned Gallery is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where people from all walks of life can feel comfortable and safe to engage with art.
We are lucky to be part of an inspiring creative community, and we aim to give back as much as we can. Unassigned Gallery was born out of a desire to give a platform to artists ‘on the outside’, and to amplify all voices, as so often the art world can feel impenetrable. Driving all our workshops, classes and exhibitions is an aim to keep independent art accessible, educational, and inspiring for all.
Our overall goal for each exhibition is that the artist/curators and the gallery team (Nour, Phoebe, and Monty) all work together in a collaborative effort. We will be there to support your needs during the exhibition and are open to discussing any requirements you might have that haven’t been addressed in this info pack.

We will promote your exhibition through Instagram, Facebook, and our website/mailing list. It is also expected that you promote your exhibition as well.
Artists/curators are welcome to paint on the walls and create murals, with the expectation that the space is to be re-painted at the end of the exhibition at the cost of the artists (unless agreed otherwise). Any plans to paint murals/paint on the walls must be discussed with the gallery team before hand.
Artists/curators are expected to patch up the walls at the end of the exhibition, with supplies provided by the gallery. We will help with this but a collaborative effort is best.
-
Your artist bio, exhibition name. This will allow us enough time to upload the exhibition on to our website and start promoting.
-
Promo material including: high quality photos, BTS/WIP videos, and the official invite for social media. If you would like us to create the official invite just let us know! Exhibition statement.
-
Photos of work for the catalogue (if the work isn’t finished, that’s fine, please just send us what you have. The earlier we have it the easier it is to be on top of creating the online shop and catalogue in time for the open).
Price list of all works. Same as above, if this isn’t ready in time just please keep us in the loop. We are here to help as much as you need so let us know if there’s anything you’re stuck on, if you need help with pricing, or if you are concerned you wont have everything done in time. We work as a team and there are always ways to navigate these issues.
Preparation Schedule
Business Hours
Open: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday: 12-4pm
Closed: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Open nights are to be scheduled for Thursdays or Fridays.
This gives us Tuesday, Wednesday, and most or all of Thursday as install days. Each exhibition will be different so it is important for us to decide the timeline early on.
Open nights are free entry events.
After your exhibition:
All sold works will be organised to go to their new home via the gallery, any unsold work are to be collected within three days of your exhibition closing unless we have a different arrangement. Unfortunately we do not have the space to safely store artwork beyond this timeframe. Work that isn’t collected within this timeframe will incur a $25 late fee each day (pls don’t make me do this it feels soooo evil, we genuinely just don’t have the space). We are always open to communication so please let us know if you need a different arrangement.
