‘Entropic Bodies’ is a collection of expressive figurative representation, emerging from abstract marks, tormented faces and grotesque limbs. The exploration of entropy as a conceptual construct of dynamic energy is demonstrated through an array of drawings, paintings and textiles sculptures. In reflecting upon primordial disorder, the symbolism of physical and mental exertion is revealed through the body contained and framed within fluid spaces.

Catherine Weng is a young emerging artist currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Art at RMIT. In her multidisciplinary practice, she recontextualises the experience of swimming beyond the physicality of water. Her artworks strive to represent the memories of strangers, of vague intensity and obsession with thoughts composed through others’ perspectives. She also creates dialogue between audiences through figurative symbolism of physical and mental exertion. Her fascination of the human body’s internal and external state is explored through experimentation of textiles, paint and graphite. With the intent of confronting expressions of the human form, she invites themes of body dysmorphia, disease and unconscious stigma.
